EAT AND DRINK ESSENTIALS

Chemical-reduced solutions for eating and drinking

For eating and drinking, it is often suggested that babies should have special tableware adapted only for them. As long as you do not have very exclusive glasses and plates, using what you have may work fine. For example, it is possible to use teaspoons or small forks normally used for e.g. desserts, or mugs that don't break easily.

Using normal cutlery in stainless steel and tableware in glass or porcelain is also chemical free, compared to many of the plastic ones. They also last for longer and can be used by all, compared to tableware for babies only used for a short amount of time. Also, stuff like thicker baby spoons might even be clumsy for a little baby.

For things that still might be needed especially for babies, if you do not already have everything, below are a few examples of chemical-reduced solutions for eating and drinking.

CARE ESSENTIALS

Chemical-reduced solutions for baby care

Even before birth, studies have shown that babies can have over 200 different chemicals in their blood.

In the bathroom there are many products that contain chemicals not healthy for a little baby. Many of those chemicals are suspected carcinogens or are bioaccummulative (meaning they may stay and accumulate in the body) and can cause allergies, hormonal and reproductive disruptions etc.

It is therefore important to reduce unnecessary chemicals as much as possible, both with regards to the few products needed for kids and for adults close to the child.

Care essentials

In the bathroom, there are not many products babies need for their hygiene and personal care. Below are some examples of essentials that might be needed for babies and the caregivers close to them. A recommendation is to look for perfume-free products (as to avoid hormone disruptive chemicals and allergies) and make sure the ingredient list includes as few ingredients as possible. The ingredients can also be looked up using Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database. If you know of any better way of checking chemicals, please get in touch!

CLIMATE SMART RECIPES

One of the most effective ways to make a difference

Researchers have estimated the global food-system emissions to stand for 30% of the world's GHG emissions.

Eating a primarily plant-based diet is one of the most effective ways for households to reduce their emissions. Research also shows a link between high intake of red and processed meats and a higher risk for heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

To make it easier for time-constrained parents, below are some climate smart recipes for inspiration that provide a variety of ingredients so that at least something hopefully suits also the smallest gourmets.
